le goût de lire communautaire |

community born to read

le goût de lire communautaire | community born to read values literacy as the key to a healthy and well-functioning society and recognizes the importance of supporting the efforts of parents to encourage and enhance their children’s emerging literacy. Each child deserves the opportunity to develop his/her potential and to make a meaningful contribution to society. By providing parents with guidance and books to begin the process from the first few months of life, it is hoped to establish the foundation for early and lifelong learning.

community born to read started as a project of community volunteers working with the Pierrefonds CLSC to raise awareness that it is important to feed the mind as well as the body and to promote daily reading to children from birth.

Research has shown that children who participate in reading activities for a few minutes each day from birth will likely succeed in school with higher levels of language development. Reading to infants allows new parents special opportunities to plant the seeds for lifelong learning.

You may have tangible wealth untold
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be –
I had a mother that read to me.
